Our unrivalled hacking is simply superb:  virtually unlimited off-road riding through forests, heathland, estate farmland, and beaches (tides permitting).

Competition Venue

Here at Poplar we are very proud of what we have on offer for horse riders of all ages and abilities.  We hire out our facilities to both individuals and groups such as riding and pony clubs.  Come for an afternoon or make a day of it and take in some hacking after you’ve schooled round the xc course.  Maybe you just want to get away from it all, in which case why not book a stable and stay for the weekend . . . the options are endless.

• British Eventing Cross Country Course

With jumps ranging from 2ft up to 3ft 9”, our xc course is just awesome! We have no less than six courses:  2ft , BE80(T) , BE90, BE100, BE105,  BE Novice and BE Intermediate. However, what makes our course really special is the ground, being on free draining sandy soil you are always guaranteed the best going for your horse.  The course is well maintained with take offs and landings regularly raked.

BE Course Designers Joe Weller and Jim Hardwick update the track every year with interesting new fences designed to make the most of the natural features of the land.

We close the course in the middle of February each year in order to prepare for our British Eventing Horse Trials in March but otherwise we are open all year round with either a full course or a schooling course.

Course Hire is £30 per horse with no time limit.

• British Show Jumping Affiliated Jumping Course

We have a full course of affiliated showjumps available for hire.

Our jumps are in fantastic condition and include many fillers, planks and a liverpool.

The showjumping arena is a very large grass field so there are times when we have to allow it to recover and are therefore unable to hire it 365 days a year. However we nearly always have a grass field with a course set up available for hire.  Please give us a ring to discuss availability.

​Arena Hire is £15 per horse per hour.

Broken poles are charged at £5 per pole.

For those of you with your own equine companion, come and enjoy our vast and unrivalled equestrian facilities. We offer first-class livery services where horses are allowed to be how nature intended, enjoying all year turnout in carefully tended paddocks.  We have six staff members living on site, so there is always someone close by should you ever need assistance. Ryder Davies are our local vets and we have 3 farriers that visit the yard regularly, we also have our own resident Equine Physiotherapist, Sophie Allen, onsite.

With an indoor arena, a spacious outdoor floodlit all-weather menage, a wood chip showjumping paddock, a grid work school, a dedicated lungeing area and undoubtedly the best cross country course in the area, we really do have something for everyone. The Park hosts many onsite competitions throughout the year and we regularly head out in the lorry to local events and as a livery you are always welcome to book a space on the lorry for your horse.

Here at Poplar Park you can choose from private, semi-private, shared or class lessons.  We encourage people to fulfill their potential, but never push too hard.  Lessons can cover a variety of disciplines including flatwork, pole work, grid work, jumping a course, xc jumping and le trec.

If you love jumping our xc lessons are not to be missed: once you have mastered the basics and practised fences individually head out on course with one of our jumping instructors Jon or Bo and ride a complete circuit as a pair following their horse!  Adrenalin rushes don’t get much better than this and the horses simple adore it.

To help develop riding skills some find it helpful to be given demonstrations, or to have their lesson recorded so they can watch at their leisure and understand where development is needed.  It can also be beneficial to have lessons on the lunge to enable the rider to establish their alignment whilst the instructor controls the horse.  Separately or combined, these are great training tools and we are happy to share them with you.

We are now pleased to be able to offer driving lessons with our super little pony ‘Bubbles’.  She is suitable for both adults and children to learn carriage driving skills with.

With miles and miles of unspoilt countryside around us, we are the perfect place for hacking.  We can take groups or individuals for one, two or three hour hacks, as well as all day or even multiple days.

Our pub runs are not to be missed; what better way to spend a summer day than hacking with a couple of pub stops along the way?

Always dreamt of riding on the beach?  Come and join us for a beach ride, following the sea wall and playing in the waves.

Day rides are great fun too and our horses love nothing better than heading further afield exploring the forest!  Our lunch stop is taken at one of the beautiful local country pubs.

Multiple day rides can be organised on request, either returning to the Park every evening or staying enroute.  We’d love to here from you and help organise your ultimate riding adventure!
