- Full set of BSJA show jumps

- We also have an outdoor yard made up of 6 wooden loose boxes all with rubber matting, one having direct access to a grass paddock.
We have a varied selection of wonderful horses available to our college students, all varying in training, age, type and height (14.2hh+) but all are chosen for their temperament and suitability for our college requirements.
Available Equine Studies (Horse Care) courses
Equine Horse Care (Level One)
This is a one academic year programme, starting in September. Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required, typically 3-4 days per week on-campus and a 5th day in work placement.
You don’t need any experience of working in a land-based role or any previous land-based qualification. It also allows students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or further study on a range of level 2 programmes offered on our Otley Campus.
This course is designed to offer progression to level 2 programmes, apprenticeships as well as employment within the land-based sector. Land-Based Studies is for anyone who wants a career working with animals.
To achieve this qualification, students will be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments which will be used to compile a portfolio of evidence, plus one multiple choice exam.
All students who have not achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

Equine Horse Care (Level Two)
This is a one academic year programme, starting in September. Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required, typically 3-4 days per week on campus and a 5th day in work placement.
Full time students follow a Study programme.
This new Technical qualification from City and Guilds is for students who are interested in studying both theory and practical aspects. This course has been designed by employers to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant technical skills, which combine both theory and practical aspects.
To achieve this Level 2, you will be required to complete an external assessment. You will also be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments. As part of your Study programme you must also complete 150 hours of work experience alongside attendance at college to achieve this qualification. Typical placements may include Livery yards, Studs and competition yards.
All students who have not achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

Equine Horse Care (Level Three)
This is a one academic year programme, starting in September. Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required, typically 3-4 days per week on-campus plus an additional day in work placement.
This course is a technical qualification from City and Guilds which has been designed by employers to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant skills which combine both theory and practical aspects of horse care.
You will follow a study programme of theory and practical aspects, including Health and Wellbeing, Husbandry and Handling, Nutrition and Feeding, Horse Behaviours, and Welfare.
To achieve this Level 3, you will be required to complete a total of two external assessments in Year 1. You will also be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments. As part of your Study programme, you must also complete 150 hours of work experience alongside attendance at college, to achieve this qualification. Typical placements may include Livery yards, Studs and competition yards.
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to a second year in order to achieve an Advanced Technical Extended Diploma
